Five day fever ....

Last week marked Luca's longest fever. For five days, his fever which came on and off kept us all worried.

He usually recovers after three days but this time round it seems the virus hit him hard.

Both a blood test and urine test was done and tests revealed the presence of mycoplasma in the little fella. Apparently it is quite common to catch this bug - whatever it is.

What surprised me was when blood samples were taken from his arm as opposed to his feet like his infant days. This time, they drew blood from him just like how adults get blood drawn through a syringe.

I was perhaps more nervous than Luca was. He didn't know what was happening. I knew and I was tasked to hold him tight so he won't struggle.

As the needle was inserted through his thin skin, he did not react. He didn't cry. He didn't even move as if he knew the consequences of a broken needle.

When it was over, I felt relieved. The boy just didn't care nor did he feel the pain. Usually during his regular vaccinations, he would scream and cry for at least 30 seconds. This time no reaction.

A tough boy. Tougher than I am.

He is on his way to recovery and needs to complete ten days of antibiotics. Sad to say it is going to be a challenge feeding it. Perhaps it taste yucky. Unlike those he willingly took previously and sometimes ask for more of.

Rash has developed all over his body, hands, legs and even face but the doctor said all is well as long as it doesn't itch.

A case of fake German measles it seems and a normal reaction for toddlers his age after a long period of fever.

Hope he recovers quick.

Spanking ....

Just two days back, I heard the boy crying loudly in the room while I was attending to a conference call in the living room.

Mummy was spanking Luca.

My heart ached as I heard his cries.

Not knowing what happened, I ignored the cries as I know mummy knows what is best for the kid.

I learnt from Sandy that Luca had hit her in the face. Not once but twice.

Obviously this kid needs some spanking if not it will result in him being whacked by me.

Trust me .... If he hits me in my face and causing my spectacles to fall off, this boy will get into very big trouble.

Thus better to teach him now before anyone else gets hurt.

Wilful.

A cousin commented that my boy will grow up a wilful kid.

Indeed.

I guess I have to start taking steps to guide this boy through life and make sure his wilful behaviour will not be a negative attribute but something that will help him positively.

I too have a certain degree of being wilful. My parents know that. Some friends too.

Another friend commented that Luca is gentle and I think he will too be as soft spoken as me. Am I actually?

If I am, then thats what I hope he will be.

Aches.

Age seems to have caught up with me.

Just before the weekend started, I had to visit doctors for various issues.

It started with an aching back and a fever.

Four days have passed but the ache remains and any sudden movements will result in a sharp pain at some parts of the back.

An X-ray was done and glad to know bones are intact and still well aligned. Thus diagnosis is muscle strain.

On Saturday, the tummy ached causing me to visit the toilet more often. And the pain was as sharp as my aching back.

These two aches are perhaps the worst combination to have.

As I sit on my throne, the back hurts. And when am done and need to clean up after, I had a hard time bending over because of the pain in the back.

I can only say its terrible. I felt like a prank was played on me.

Tonight I will be trying some medical plasters for aches and pains. I think 6 big plasters should be enough to cover the affected areas.

Age is catching up. I never once used those plasters but I am left with no other choice now.

Maybe accupuncture next if the plasters combined with oral medication produces no effective result.

Sigh. I am only 28.

An intruder ...

I knew this would happen. I shouldn't have given in. But what to do? He just loves the purple creature.

Yes. Barney entered my life in a big way.

That darn thing sleeps on my bed!

Between Sandy and me lies Luca and his favourite soft toy.

I used to enjoy my bed so much. The pre-Luca days. Now its post-Barney days.

I remember those nights where he will wake up at 3am calling out Papa ... Now he calls out for Barney.

Ok. I lied. He calls Barney 'garden'. I have no idea why. Maybe a pet name for his favourite character but that's what he calls Barney.

So in my sleepy state at 3am, the little boy calls out for Garden and we will need to retrieve it from his crib.

And when Garden lies beside him, he sleeps almost immediately. But poor me, I often lie awake awaiting the moment he gets into deep sleep mode before kicking Garden out of my bed.

Maybe out the window.

Ok. As long as Luca smiles and remain the happy boy he is ... A few more Barneys entering my life shouldn't really bother me at least for now.

But if he insists to keep Barney after he turns 12, I shall rip the purple dinosaur into pieces.

That's a promise.
