His first fall ...

All part of growing up, Luca took his first plunge from the bed and on to the floor knocking his head.

For a long three minutes he cried and as parents we felt helpless that we could not do anything to let him feel better. We could not take the pain out of him. If only we could ...

He looked traumatized and perhaps learnt from this experience never to chase a fallen ball or look over edges because the outcome can be rather painful.

It took a while before he smiled and play again as we tried ways to pacify him. I felt really lousy all evening and surely will not want to experience that kind of pain again. It made me sore all over.

I guess that's the feeling of being parents. You just don't want them hurt and every cut they suffer in their lifetime will always be a scar with you. You seem to blame yourself for everything negative that happens. That's what great responsibilities parents carry.

Anyway, the little one is dancing to his music and what we'll have to do now is monitor him for the next 48 hours but am sure he is fine.

That's my Luca boy.

Pianist ...

Check out this video where Luca enjoys the keyboard so much. This chap looks as if he knows what music is all about.

Frankly, he is getting naughtier each day. He wails when he doesn't get what he wants and as compared to his younger days, he wants more attention now.

Leave him alone in his crib and he will cry his eyes and nose red. Take away the pacifier from him and he starts screaming.

Looks like in a few months, I will need to buy a few canes to discipline the little rascal. Ha ha.

Sadistic aren't I?

When one is sick ..

When one is sick, he thinks of all the paranoid outcomes that could happen and that itself can make one even sicker.

I have been on medication for a number of days now and I tend to imagine how those little pills swallowed help fight the bacteria within.

I don't really know how that works as I haven't studied medicine but it sure is miraculous to know that it just rids off whatever symptoms one is suffering from.

Am recovering well enough for the weekend's reunion dinners.

Standing ..

Just this morning, I witnessed Luca's first attempt to stand all by himself but of course it was only an attempt. He fell and never succeeded, not today but surely soon enough.

He needed the help of the baby cot to pull himself up and I was surprised by his strength and determination to try standing on his own.

I guess very soon he'll be making baby steps on his own too. Will he start walking before even crawling? It is going to be exciting to watch the tiny steps he'll make. I think by then my back will ache badly from bending over to catch him when he falls.

Sleeping habits...

Luca seems to have many sleeping habits and I don't know if it is a norm for him to do so.

Before he sleeps, he will need to shake his head vigorously while his head is rested on the pillow. Next he will hold his mini bolster and have it stuffed right at his nose only then will he close his eyes.

Eyes closed, he will twist and turn until he finds a comfortable position and frankly we just don't know his preference. As long as he sleeps, it won't bother us.

Deep asleep, he will place his hands above his head as if to say he has 'surrendered'.

It's just so amazing just watching him fall asleep. I can do that many times over and over again.

Momma he calls ..

Weird why kids' first spoken word will always be 'Momma' ...

Yesterday was the first time he called out for Sandy with the sounds close to 'Momma' (not recorded here).

This little fella seems to start recognizing people around him and will usually screen them before allowing himself to be carried.

The joys of being a kid is that when you scream. No one can say much. Go try screaming at your neighbour and you'll end up with a bruised face.

Into Luca's 8th month...

Watching Luca grow well each day brings a smile to us both. A wide smile. : )

As each day passes, the little fella changes so much in action, behaviour and facial features. Sometimes I just wonder who he looks like but everyone insists the resemblance is that of Sandy's.

He now slowly refuses to sleep on his own bed and would rather cuddle between us in bed. That can be quite cute you think but surely not as he can have quite bad sleeping habits.

He swings his arms and legs in all directions sometimes hitting me in the face, startling me.

Just today I spoke with some friends about their children's first day at school. Fast forward 6 years and Luca will attend Primary 1 too. Time flies ...

Fast forward another 15 years and he will be awaiting his 'O' Level results however before that happens, Luca would have given us numerous heart aches as a naughty boy in exchange for many canings he'll receive from me.

Just like all children, there will be naughty days. I did the same when I was younger. I broke many hearts. Both girls whom i rejected and of course my parents too. Ha ha.

Let's not look too far away and enjoy the process of parenthood as we take time to watch the little one grow taller, smarter and naughtier each day.

Happy 2011!

Luca managed to sleep till 1130am this morning on new year's day and perhaps he had too much to drink last night at the countdown party with Beatrice and gang. But of course, he slept only at 230am.

It was a simple affair yet an enjoyable one. Playing FIFA 2011 all night with Geoffrey and Wei Sheng. Yes, I can't recall if I ever counted down a new year with him.

This year's countdown party lacked a few familiar faces perhaps due to the fact that we all have a baby to tend to. No more alcohol parties at crowded establishments.

Hanwen reminded me of our past parties and indeed those times can only be sweet memories. From dinner to countdown, supper and even breakfast. I guess that'll happen again next time when the children are a little older but for now, we'll stick to a simpler routine.

Happy New Year folks!
